Campus Security - Authority and Jurisdiction
Personnel in the Campus Safety Department function as professional security officers, but do not currently have police officer status in the State of Ohio. Criminal offenses such as theft, criminal mischief, vandalism, burglary, criminal trespass, assault, disorderly conduct, etc., are reported to the local police depending on the nature and seriousness of the offense, and joint investigative efforts are deployed to handle these incidents. Individual perpetrators may be arrested and charged in accordance with state and local laws. Infractions involving university rules and regulations are promptly reported to Student Services for disciplinary action. Campus Safety personnel work closely with the local police and have direct radio communication with them on a 24-hour-a-day basis. Any situations occurring in the town or county that may impact the university are reported by the local police to Campus Safety immediately. Cedarville University is also part of the Greene County 911 Emergency System.
