Sandi Harner
Professor Harner serves as Professor of English and teaches Technical and Professional Communication, a program which she developed at Cedarville in 1984. She has successfully brought the program to a full major. Along with her teaching responsibilities, she is an independent consultant and contract writer and serves on the Society for Technical Communication's (STC) Board of Directors. Professor Harner was named a Fellow of STC in 2001, received the STC Jay R. Gould Award for Excellence in Teaching in 1997, and also received the first STC Faculty Internship Grant in 1997. Professor Harner has also helped to create and sustain one of the most successful student chapters of STC. She received a B.A. in English from Cedarville College, a B.S. in English Education from Central State University and an M.A. in English from the University of Dayton. She has been at Cedarville since 1981.
Kevin Heath
Dr. Heath serves as Associate Professor of English and the chair of the Department of Language and Literature. He teaches creative writing and advanced composition classes. His work has appeared in various publications including Mars Hill Review, The Chariton Review, and Tennis magazine. His essay "Breathing Room" (MHR, 1999) was nominated for a Pushcart Prize and as a Best American Essay. Dr. Heath received his Ph.D. in Creative Writing from the University of Cincinnati in 1999. He has been at Cedarville since 1990.
Ryan Futrell (Program Coordinator)
Assistant Professor Ryan L. Futrell is a 1997 Cedarville graduate. After graduation, he earned a Master of Fine Arts Degree in Creative Writing from The University of North Carolina at Greensboro. He has taught creative writing, literature, composition, and developmental learning courses at UNCG, Elon University, and now at Cedarville. Since coming to Cedarville, Professor Futrell has served as a faculty advisor for the student literature journal, The Cedarville Review. Professor Futrell has published poetry in such journals as The Cresset, 88: A Journal of Literature and Fine Arts, caketrain, Poetry Motel, and Flights. He has published short fiction in Virginia Adversaria, Harper Palate, Zone 3, and Square Lake. He has had stories nominated for Scribner's Best of the Fiction Workshops, New American Voices, and has twice been nominated for The Pushcart Prize. His story, "Mythologies" has recently been selected by W.W. Norton and Company for inclusion in an upcoming anthology entitled, "Flash Fiction Forward" (scheduled for publication in August of 2006). He has taught at Cedarville since 2003.
Julie Moore
Julie Moore began teaching at Cedarville University in 1999 after teaching for ten years at nearby Wilberforce University. Professor Moore directs the university’s writing center, and she teaches dramatic literature and freshman composition. She presently serves on the CU African-American Advisory Council. In addition, her poetry has appeared or is forthcoming in Heartlands, Christianity and Literature, The Christian Century, The Penwood Review, Mars Hill Review, Radix, Confluence, and Miller's Pond.
