Instructions for Managers
Hiring / Advertising Positions
When an opening occurs within your department OR a new position is authorized and funded, the hiring manager should complete a Staff Personnel Requisition form. This form should be sent to HR, along with an updated and signed job description. View our guide for writing a job description for help and ideas.
HR will work with the department manager to identify possible candidates for promotion or transfer from within the University if possible.
At the manager's request, HR will prepare an announcement posting the position to all faculty and staff via e-mail. In addition, HR will work with the hiring manager if he/she wishes to advertise the position off-campus.
HR will accept and screen all incoming employment applications to identify those candidates who are qualified for the position. Should an application be sent directly to the manager from the applicant, the hiring manager should re-direct the application to HR.
After initial screen for qualifications (testimony, pastoral recommendation and doctrinal agreement), all qualified application packages will be sent to the hiring manager. The manager will be responsible for conducting an employment interview and making the final determination (along with VP approval) to extend an official employment offer. The hiring manager should discuss final details (i.e., start date, rate of pay, etc…) with HR before making any formal offer.
Once offer is negotiated and accepted, the offer should be put in writing. The original letter goes to the new hire, and a copy should be provided to HR. HR will provide additional guidance and resources as requested.
Managers should notify, in writing, all non-selected candidates that were interviewed. HR will notify all candidates who were not interviewed. The hiring manager should communicate with HR so that all applicants receive notification.
Hiring manager should inform the new employee to contact Kelly Wilson, Staffing Services Coordinator, at (937) 766-7418, prior to the start date to schedule a one-hour new employee orientation which should occur during the first three days of employment.
