Student Recycling Information
Please note the updated lists of recyclable/non-recyclable materials as follows. These lists are accurate for every building on campus and will be updated as needed. We will also notify by e-mail when updates are necessary.
Residence Halls
In every dorm there is a station for recyclable material only. Usually these stations are located in a laundry room, though some are in lounges. Please follow the instructions on the signs at your station to dispose of the following materials:
- Paper (computer, colored, glossy, magazines, newspaper) and cardboard
- Plastic bottles - caps need to be on
- Aluminum cans - please note that cans must be separate from all other recyclables, because they are taken to a different recycling facility. Additionally, liquid left in the cans may contaminate recyclable paper.
Unacceptable material, which should be placed in your regular trash dumpster, includes:
- Tissues
- Tissue paper
- Napkins
- Paper towels
- Styrofoam
- Wax paper
- Paper plates
- Plastic silverware and cups
- Pizza boxes
- Anything that has been contaminated by food or drink
Academic Buildings
You may have noticed the blue recycling cans available in classrooms, lobbies, computer labs, and in the lower level of the SSC. Please place only paper (any kind - see above), cardboard, or plastic bottles with the caps on in these cans. Unless you see a recycling container specifically labeled for aluminum cans, do not place them in with the rest of the recyclables; they should go with the regular trash. Typically recycling cans in classrooms and computer labs are not lined with trash bags, because no food or drink should be spilled in them. Your cooperation in this area helps to shorten classroom cleaning time and is greatly appreciated by the Custodial staff!
If you have any recycling questions or suggestions, such as a great new location for a recycling container, please contact Paul Ware at campus number 3222 or by email.
We are also now providing a free service to all faculty, staff and students to recycle rechargeable batteries and cell phones. Acceptable batteries include those found in cordless power tools, cellular and cordless phones, laptop computers, camcorders, two-way radios and remote control toys. Please drop off your batteries and/or cell phones to the recycling office at the Service Center. Thank you!
