Seasoned Staff Interview
Name: Phyllis Morris
Title: Senior Automation Supervisor, Post Office
- Are you a "night owl" or an "early bird"? Definitely night owl!
- Willing to share an embarrassing moment... ? I had just finished marching in my first parade with my high school band (in a major competition) when I realized I was the only one wearing a dark blue hat. Everyone else had on the light blue hat that went with our new uniforms. The person issuing the hat had taken the last one from the uniform closet, assuming it was O.K. (We did win the competition!)
- Who is the most famous person you have ever met...or whom do you most admire? Actually two people, who I greatly admire - my good friend George Beverly Shea, and Marge Saint, former wife of Nate Saint, who stayed in my home when she visited our missions base in Peru. I was a missionary there with Wycliffe Bible Translators.
- What is your life's passion outside of work...or share how you fill your leisure time? Gardening, gardening, gardening. Canning and freezing, and sharing the results. Also Grandmothering!
- What is your favorite childhood memory...or a memorable moment from serving here at Cedarville? Growing up and working on our farm in Lancaster County, PA. Cedarville moment(s) - working in the physical plant after a fire burned it out. We donned coveralls, masks and gloves, and removed salvageable inventory, scrubbed it, and arranged it in temporary trailers.
- What is the craziest (printable) thing you've ever done? One of the craziest - got out of the vehicle while on an African Safari (not allowed!) to stalk an ostrich for a prize photo. They can be a very dangerous bird! The ostrich then rushed up to the vehicle to give us a close up photo op!
- What is the farthest distance you've ever traveled? Where did you go? I have gone to South Africa three times in recent years, to work at Bethesda Children's Village. My assignments varied, but included child care, teaching school, assisting in the children's homes, working on the grounds/gardens, being "Soccer Mom". A special honor was turning the first shovel of dirt for the groundbreaking for the Children's Village.
