Welcome to the 'Ville
Name: Phil Schanely
Title: Production Tech Analyst, Center for Teaching & Learning
- Where are you originally from and what brought you to Cedarville? I was born in Papua, New Guinea because my parents were missionaries there. When I was 7, we moved to Charlotte, North Carolina where I lived until leaving for Cedarville University in January 2003.
- Tell us about your family. My wonderful wife Karen and I have been married for 6 months. We were married in Richmond, Indiana. Karen is in her last semester at Cedarville.
- How did you and your wife meet? We met in the office of Leila O'Sullivan. Karen went to get her Music Theory test scores and I happened to be in the office. When I saw her, I really wanted to meet her, but we didn't actually meet until a few weeks later in Chuck's. We courted over Dutch Blitz, dated for about 3 years and then married.
- Where do you work and what do you like most about your job? I work in the Center for Teaching & Learning. I love doing web-scripting and anything technical. My degree was in Graphic Design.
- Do you have a favorite childhood memory? My grandfather and I were very close. He was a carpenter and we worked in his woodshop together. My grandparents lived near us and he was a missionary mentor to me. My father was a second generation missionary to Papua, New Guinea.
- What is the craziest thing you've ever done? Well actually, I'm pretty tame. I never pulled an all-nighter in order to study or get work done. I guess that craziest thing is that I fell out of a treehouse while I was in high school...
- What do you do in your spare time? I love reading, freelance web design and writing music. I love music; in fact I started out as a music major. I ended up changing my major 4 times, but finally went with Graphic Design.
Some of my other interests are linguistics, church history and psychology.
I also like to walk and hike leisurely. I like to enjoy the outdoors. - If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you live? New Zealand. The variety of scenery is just amazing. They have desert, mountains, jungle, forest, aquatic reefs, highland lakes, etc.
- Who was the most influential person in your life? During my time at Cedarville, Professor Holt was my mentor and close friend. I am who I am today largely because of his influence in my life.
