Campus Security - Responibile Offices
The offices responsible for security and safety at Cedarville University are the Campus Safety and Student Life Departments, reporting to the Vice President of Business and Vice President of Student Services, respectively. The Director of Campus Safety maintains overall responsibility for the service-related safety and security functions. The Campus Safety Department is divided into the following:
- 1 director of campus safety
- 1 department office manager/dispatcher
- 6 full-time security officers, including supervisory personnel
- 1 part-time traffic enforcement officer
- 1-2 part-time officer
- 5-6 student campus safety officers (cadets)
The officers working with the department are primarily selected based on prior experience and training in private security, police, fire, military, or emergency medical service. Most of the officers have college degrees in criminal justice/police science, have specialized security training, or, in the case of students, are involved in working toward the completion of their degree. In addition, the officers in the department are classified as private security officers while performing their duties on campus. Training includes but is not limited to legal updates and issues, crime prevention strategies, safety, fire and evacuation response, report writing, CPR/basic first aid, and self-defense training. Most full-time and part-time officers are certified in the use of pepper spray and hasp baton and are authorized to carry these non-lethal weapons while on duty.
