Happy 125th Birthday, Cedarville!

January 18, 2012

Article posted by Carol Lee, senior communication specialist and managing editor of Cedarville University's Inspire magazine

Have you heard? It’s our birthday!

Cedarville University is turning 125 and getting better with age. Our birthday celebration will extend from our Charter Day on January 26 through commencement in May and culminate with homecoming and the dedication of the beautiful new Health Sciences Center in October.

The most recent issue of Cedarville's award-winning Inspire magazine kicked off this milestone year with an edition called "The Cedarville You Need to Know." We presented stories that look back on our history — the people and events that have made us who we are. We also looked ahead to the future and introduced some of the key initiatives that will shape who Cedarville is becoming, in the immediate future and beyond.

The issue begins by asking (and answering) a question you may be wondering about, too: "Is the Cost of Higher Education Worth It?" (pg. 10). The article explores why higher education costs so much, if it can be affordable, where tuition dollars go, and how much college debt is reasonable. It's a must-read for parents!

You may also wonder if Cedarville grads are finding jobs after earning their degree. The most recent data available from the Class of 2010 showed an overwhelming 95.8 percent were employed or in graduate school within six months of graduation. You may wish to read more about the great work our career services office is doing for students and alumni in the summer 2011 Inspire, "Explore your Number 1 Career Resource."

We strive to make each edition of Inspire a practical and, yes, inspiring resource for alumni, parents, and friends. It's fun to stay connected with the Cedarville family and see the widespread influence they are having around the world.

We're looking forward to our next 125 years and are excited that you and your student are a part of the story!
