What's New in College Now?
February 16, 2016
Today, guest contributor Paula Kordic, Coordinator of Cedarville’s College Now program, explains how tremendous growth in our College Now program has led to some changes that you as a parent should be aware of. College Now provides the opportunity for high school students to take University courses at greatly reduced rates (or even FREE for Ohio students).
What do you think of when you hear the phrase “growing pains?” Several memories come to my mind ... like having to buy my sons longer jeans a few short months after thinking I had the school year covered. Or the nagging ache (for mom!) of having a broken teenage heart in the house. Or, how about having more drivers in the household than you have cars? Yes, these are growing pains. But, they are all normal experiences and signal growth, change, and new opportunities.
Cedarville’s College Now program is experiencing some “growing pains,” too. In the spring term of 2014, 114 high school students were taking 214 Cedarville College Now courses. This spring term, we have 287 high school students registered for 476 courses. That’s a 151% increase in students alongside a 122% increase in courses taken – in just two years!
While it is thrilling to serve such an increased number of students, this incredible growth has given us an opportunity to review our overall College Now program to assure we are serving students, parents, and schools from all over the nation and around the world as efficiently and as effectively as possible. We are streamlining internal processes to assure that our systems can effectively support the surge in students that God is bringing to Cedarville’s College Now program. Our desire is to communicate any changes to our College Now families in a clear and timely way.
To that end, starting with summer term 2016, we will be streamlining our pricing structure. All courses taken through College Now will be billed at $166/credit hour, approximately 80% below the standard tuition rate for undergraduate students! As in the past, some courses also have an additional fee, and books are paid by the students. We are committed to reducing book costs by providing new, used, and rental options.
Students who reside in Ohio and receive funding through the state of Ohio’s College Credit Plus program will continue to take Cedarville College Now courses for free. Fees are waived by the University, and the student’s high school is responsible to cover the books. Homeschool students are responsible to cover their book costs.
If you have any questions about these changes, please let us know! We look forward to continuing to serve you and your family by providing affordable college courses that are marked by excellence and grounded in biblical truth.
