Are Online Courses a Good Fit for Your Student?

October 26, 2016

Dual credit programs have become an important part of offsetting the high cost of a college education. Typical courses taken for dual credit are general education courses that meet requirements for most any degree – courses in literature, history, psychology, anthropology, or biology, to name a few.

While it is true that students can take these kinds of courses at any liberal arts college, Christian parents recognize the importance of the general education core in shaping their student’s view of the world and their place in it. This is why Cedarville University offers many general education courses to high school students through its College Now program. Since many courses are offered online, students living anywhere in the country can benefit from Cedarville’s biblically integrated and rigorous general education courses

But parents often have questions about whether their student can be successful in an online course. In today's post, guest contributor Paula Kordic, Cedarville’s Dual Enrollment Coordinator, offers some insight that will help you understand the differences between learning in a face-to-face classroom and learning in an online environment.

A Bold, Biblical Approach to Geology

October 24, 2016

Rock formationsAt Cedarville, we approach the study of geology differently from most universities – even ones that call themselves “Christian.” As with every program we offer, our geology program boldly acknowledges the Bible as the ultimate framework for research and study, without sacrificing academic excellence. We are unashamed to adhere to a literal, six-day account of Creation and recognize God as the Creator of all life. We are honored to be included in Answers in Genesis’ select list of Creation Colleges.

Each year, Dr. John Whitmore, Professor of Geology, leads a group of students on a trip to the Grand Canyon, where they examine geological evidence that supports the biblical account of Creation and Noah's Flood. Watch the video below to experience a taste of this incredible trip.

Don't Miss Out on Scholarships!

FAFSA logoStill haven’t filed your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)? Consider this: Statistics show that a key barrier to college participation is choosing not to file the FAFSA. A surprising number of students are missing out on opportunities in higher education because they don't even try to get aid.

Remember, the FAFSA is required to access all need-based scholarships at Cedarville as well as state and federal grants. You can complete the FAFSA electronically at using your 2015 tax data. Be sure to use Cedarville's federal school code: 003025 to ensure your FAFSA results are sent directly to us. It is the best way to guarantee that your student gets as much aid as possible!

The FAFSA opened October 1, so now is the time to complete it! Our financial aid office has put together resources to assist you as you complete the FAFSA, including an archived webinar. Please contact us if we can help in any way.

Cedarville Professors Offer Expert, Biblical Opinion on Current Issues

October 19, 2016

Bereans at the Gate logo

In the spring of 2013, five Cedarville University political science, history, and economic professors joined together to create a blog – Bereans at the Gate – that offers a Christ-centered, biblical look at important issues affecting our nation. They address politics, economics, theology, history, law, and culture. As their “About” page explains, “We hope to use the insights we find to peacefully storm the gates that surround our fallen culture.”

There’s never been a time that our nation needed such godly counsel more. It’s been a tumultuous election season, to say the least. We hope you find this blog to be a valuable resource as you wrestle with decisions leading up to election day. It is exactly the kind of biblical integration your student will find at Cedarville University.

For those who live within driving distance of Cedarville, our Center for Political Studies is hosting Election 2016: History in the Making, a free community forum to help citizens navigate the issues of this important presidential election. The forum will be held Wednesday, October 26, from 7–8:30 p.m. in the Dixon Ministry Center on Cedarville’s campus.
