Students who plan on pursuing careers in ministry, law, education, business, or politics are encouraged to join the team.
First Year Eligibility
The Debate Scholarship fund for first-year members may be defined as incoming freshmen, transfer students, or current students who choose to join the team. The Director of Debate will determine the exact amount of the recruitment scholarship based on an interview and an application submitted. Scholarships may range from $500 - $2,000. The application will assess the following information:
- Previous experience in Debate competition or related activities
- High school GPA (unweighted)
- ACT/SAT scores (SAT scores represent a combination of critical reading and math)
- Rationale for wanting to join the team
Continuing Student Eligibility
The Debate Scholarship for returning team members will be awarded first to students serving in a formal leadership role (e.g., team captain) with other team members awarded subsequently. Scholarships may range from $500 -$2,000. To receive the scholarship the team member must inform the Director of Debate of his or her intent to return at the end of the season (the third week of April). The Director of Debate will award the scholarship the following fall after the student returns to the team. No application required. The current Director of Debate will determine amount of the scholarship based on the following criteria:
- GPA of at least 2.5
- Level of success in previous year(s) of competition
- Willingness to coach/mentor less experienced team members
- Financial need
