The Ohio Police Corps Program
What is the Ohio Police Corps?
The Ohio Police Corps is designed to produce a "cream of the crop" cadre of law enforcement officers at all levels of state government. The goal of the program is to encourage an undergraduate or graduate education and to provide a 21 week state-of-the art Police Academy experience.
What will the Police Corps Provide?
- Up to $30,000 to cover college expenses- $7,500 per year for four years. Upperclassmen may receive funds for past years.
- A 21 week academy experience and $250 per week during training.
- Graduates from the program will be assisted in placement and completion of the program will label them as among the "best".
- A profession that currently compensates academy graduates at a rate of $36,000- $38,000 per year with reasonable benefits.
Is the program open only to Criminal Justice majors? No.
More on the Academy
Program administrators have scheduled the inaugural class of 30 cadets to begin around the middle of May 2004. Their statement regarding the academy is as follows: "21 weeks and includes an extremely rigorous training program that will not only meet OPOTA (State certification agency for law enforcement agency for law officers) 550 hours but will enhance the training experience with an additional 600+ hours of innovative and scenario-based training."
