Hey my name is Ashley and I know that we're not supposed to dance at CU, but all through high school I have been part of the school's Color Guard (flags in marching band) for 5 years and a local church's Winter Guard (flags inside with Christian music) for 2 years and I was just wondering if anyone else is dropping a dance related activity to attend CU. I'm not complaining, I feel God is leading me to CU, but I am curious. Ashley

Hey hey Ashley.

While I'm sure you're a bit more talented than I am, I too will have a little dance-shaped whole in my heart for my time at CU, simply because of the lack of celebratory dances during ultimate frisbee.

I don't know how I'll make it without them.

Oh my gosh! Another colorguard person?!?! I was so surprised when I read your message, I could have sworn nobody out there knew what colorguard was or even winterguard for that matter. Did you know there is a winterguard like 15 minutes away from Cedarville? (I'm from Jersey, so we measure how far away something is in minutes.) I think I'll be too busy to even think about joining another guard. However, I'm still bringing my weapons just in case. Back to your question though (I got so excited to see the word colorguard. What can I say, I'm a dork.) I too have a love for dance, however, Cedarville offers classes in ballet (even pointe), so it's not too bad. Go to this address to see what the scheduled classes were for this past semester. I'm plan on doing it. Hopefully I'll see you there! http://www.cedarville.edu/academics/sshp/recreation/fitness/classes.cfm

Hi everyone! Wow, that is so cool to see that ballet class on the schedule! I have taken dance class for over 10 years, and it's definitely my favorite way to excersize! I've never gotten very good, but I do love ballet and pointe is such a fun challenge! I had been content to largely give up dancing, at least for four years of my life, but now I guess I won't have to. I wonder if they ever do anything like a worship dance type thing?

Hey Guys! Well, I can`t say im anywhere close to being able to dance ballet, lol, but I do love to dance. Oh, before i forget, my name`s Kristi Smith, lol. I was a part of show choir at my school for a couple of years and then later switched to my church dance team. It has been so much fun and ill miss it terribly, but i know God has some great things in store for me. It was nice to kinda hear from you guys, lol. Agape!

yeah, cedarville does allow dancing as a form of exercise/worship/art. they discourage dancing because contemporary dance (ballroom, salsa, etc - the types that are not allowed) is "often sexually provocative," and don't want students in compromising situations. so you don't really have to give it up altogether - it just needs to be kept in proper context and form.

I took dance classes from the age of 3 until I was about 12? My freshmen and sophomore years of highschool I was on the school dance team. Part of the reason I stopped was I felt the dancing was not always appropriate, so it makes me very excited to hear Cedarville has ballet classes, as I have missed dancing, in a God-honoring way. And ballet was always my favorite.

I got accepted to Cedarville and am now considering attending Cedarville for Fall 2009. I've taken dance classes for 14 years and was excited to see that CU has some dance classes. I found a dance schedule link that only had one advanced ballet class, but I didn't see pointe. Is there a revised schedule? Has anyone taken the dance classes?

I am a dancer! I love contemporary/modern, jazz, lyrical, ballet, etc. I go to an arts high school in Vancouver, WA and I have danced for my whole life! What dance classes does Cedarville offer?

I am a dancer. I have been on my church's worship dance team for 5 years now! I dance with the most amazing group of girls, we are called "Send Judah First." I think if/when I come to cedarville...or wherever God leads me, that's what I'm going to miss the most! My time with those girls has been so amazing! I hate to leave them! Our dance team has been so much a part of my growing, and there is no better way I love to worship God than with dance. It is with dance that I really feel that I can give God everything in me! Everything that he has given me comes out in dance, it's my song to Him. I really hope that Cedarville has a worship dance team, or that one could be started!

Any other worship dancers out there??

Hey, It's cool to see the Ballet class. I am a ballroom dancer. I have been through cotillion and had a formal for my 16th birthday. I go to every dance i get a chance to. Locally I attend contra-dances and I often visit my sister and attend dances with her at her school. Even in my drama club we always incorporate some kind of dance. Which has gotten more complicated with lifts and such. I know a lot of people approve of some dancing like ballet and such but not ballroom because the guy and girl are so close. I completely understand this, but it has never posed a problem for me. I will definitely miss dancing. I had applied to a secular college and if accepted was going to join their ballroom dancing club and be involved in competitions, but God has a different plan. I have to say though Ballroom, swing and contra dancing I will miss a lot.

Hey just a quick note for all you who are dancers. We have a great end-of-the-year program called Elliv where it's a bunch of dance routines and a concert, that you can audition for!! So feel free to go for that!

Also I had a friend who took the Irish Step Dancing class last year and loved it!! So there's something else you may want to look into when you get here.

Yes actually. My name is Marleigh and when I go to Cedarville since my dance school is so far off I am going to have to drop tap and musical theatre and ballet. However, there is a ballet studio on campus so I hope to get involved in that and since I am going into musical theatre I am not going to give up dancing. I will just have to find a dance school for tap and jazz.

Hey there future CU students, just wanted to fill you in on some updates: there has been a group of girls getting together to do worship dance routines. I'm sure once you get on campus someone can hook you up! They've performed at a couple events, and are really talented dancers.

Also the hippest thing to do on campus, is now SWING DANCING! I haven't gone yet but really want to. =)

The dance rules have been modified, and the whole point is: it's okay to dance, it just needs to be done tastefully. I'm sure we're all capable of doing that. =)
