Hey everyone! Congrats on being accepted into Cedarville University! It's going to be one of the most amazing, challenging, and rewarding processes you'll ever go through

I figured I'd just introduce myself a little bit and give y'all some tips for coming here! I know talking to some current students really helped me out last year. My name is Taylor, and I will be a sophomore Nursing major next year! I'm from Pittsburgh, PA and my hobbies include shopping (you can tell I'm a girl, huh?), playing piano, and just having fun with my fellow brothers and sisters in Christ!

Now for some pointers. Bear in mind that this is just coming from my experience, and you in no way HAVE to follow these lol.
1. I would highly recommend getting involved in at least 1 org on campus, but don't get carried away! I'm currently a member of the OneVoice gospel choir and a volunteer group that helps out nurses at a local hospital. Explore your opportunities, and don't be afraid to try something new!
2. If you can, sign up for a discipleship group during the Involvement Fair. It really helps to have fellow students around you who know what you're going through.
3. NEVER, and I mean NEVER use a tray in Chuck's. EVER.
4. Don't be stressed if you're looking for a relationship with someone and you end up single for a while. I went through the same thing, and I'm still single lol
5. Be aware that the weather here is VERY bipolar.
6. Don't be afraid of your profs! The majority of them are super nice, and are willing to help you out at any time!
7. Do your best to go to chapel. I know 5 days a week is a lot, but it really is rewarding!
8. You're going to have to go to most of your classes. No, you will not be required to go to every single class, but I wouldn't recommend missing any. You never know when a prof is going to mention something said in class on an exam!
9. Don't freak out about your grades if they aren't what you want them to be right away! It's a big adjustment going from high school to college, so hang in there!
10. BE YOURSELF!! I cannot emphasize this enough!

Sorry this ended up being so long lol. If any of you soon-to-be freshies need any of your questions answered, comment below or send me an email! I also have a facebook (Taylor Cefola), so you can friend me too

On a slightly unrelated note, I am still looking for a roommate for next year! If one of you lovely ladies doesn't mind being around sophomore nursing students in Willets Hall, let me know! haha

God Bless you all, and congrats!!
In Christ,

Taylor Cefola

I'm going to need a roomate lol. Thanks for all the advice, I am actually coming into Cedarville as a Sophmore. I'm Transferring, and I took a year off so I am 21...which I'm hoping wont make things awkward at CU. However, although I've attended college it was 10min from where I live so I commuted and it was SUPER small so it just felt like HS. So although I'm somewhat use to college courses, this is going to be a HUGE adjustment for me!!! I have to ask...why shouldnt we use a tray in chucks? haha. Hope to hear from you!

God Bless,
Rachel Clevenger

LOL! I love these "10 Pointers" Taylor!!

Rachel - the trays at Chucks are fine to use but most people don't. It's considered an "identifying mark" of a Freshman when you pick up a tray. Technically, we try not to use trays to reduce washing (and water use). Most people just carry a plate in their hands. Oh and really don't worry about being 21 - I'm 27 (a junior) and there are MANY students here who are 21-25 and even several in their 30s-50s. (we call it taking the scenic route to college!)

I *completely* echo #6 --the profs are all super eager to help students out. The trick is to get to know your academic adviser as soon as possible (they will be your best resource for your time at CU) and then participate in class so your prof knows your name & face. Most profs will be more generous in their grading if they know you more personally and see you taking an active participation in your education (you'll hear them say, if your grade is a B+ and you've been actively involved in in-class discussions, they have the right to bump you up to an A- or similar). Come prepared to interact with and get to know your professors and they will surprise you at how much they want to invest in you.

haha! good to know about the trays and knowing that there are plenty of people there my age and older is a huge relief. I mean, I wouldn't have minded either way. It's just nice knowing I wont feel old. lol. Thanks for all the advice and help means a lot! Now my big concern is finding the roomate God wants for me and getting into a hall. Thanks again!

God Bless,
