I am interested in visiting Cedarville and I was wondering when I should come: during a CU Friday or on a personal visit?
Any advice? |

I am currently a freshma at Cedarville. I visited during spring break of my junior year, and i went to a CU Friday, but came to Cedarville on Thursday. I was able to spend the night in the dorms with two girls which was a lot of fun. I was able to see what dorm life was like and then get to talk about what they liked and disliked. Then my CU Friday was realy fun, and I went and sat ina a few classes too. Oh and make sure you eat here at CU in order to make sure you like the food. I dont know if this will help you at all, but i guess I kinda a hybrid visi of a CU friday and a personal visit.

I never went to a CU Friday. When I was visiting colleges I always made a point of visiting on days when they were not expecting large hordes of visitors, because I wanted to make sure that I was seeing the campus as it really was and not as their "public image" specifically made over for that one day.
This is one thing you don't have to worry about at Cedarville. I'm a freshman this year, and during the numerous CU Fridays so far I have not noticed a difference in the campus at all. If you come on a CU Friday you don't have to worry, because what you see really is what you get. I agree with Morgan, you should definitely eat the food and should definitely go to at least one chapel and at least a couple of classes. As far as classes go, I would suggest attending one of the Gen Ed Bible classes that's required for the minor, as well as a lower level class in your intended major and possibly a Gen Ed in something other than Bible. If you can, try to set up a meeting with a professor in your intended major. They're always thrilled to answer questions for potential students, and it makes a big difference. When I was visiting campuses last year I found that I got the greatest sense of what the school was like from chapel, classes, and professors. ------------------------- Class of 2013 and a member of the facebook group. A little about me to anyone who's interested: My name is Elizabeth, I like music (singing and piano), running, bowling, reading, writing, and a number of other hobbies. I'm majoring in Math Ed with minors in Computer Science and Bible. |

If you're going to come on a CU Friday, do something like mhesch and come a day early so that you can stay in a dorm. It gives you a chance to get to talk with us current students a little more one-on-one than you might otherwise get to do, so it's a bit more personal, but you also get the CU Friday benefits. Personally, I made sure not to come on a CUF, because it seriously is INSANE on those days - hundreds of people come, and you might not end up wanting to go to Chuck's on a CUF, because finding seats is a nightmare. Either way, try e-mailing a prof in your intended major whose class you want to sit in on before you come, because you might be able to sit in on one that they don't normally put in the handouts lists. They might also be able to see if any students from your intended major would be willing to talk to you as well, which gives you an even better perspective on the program you're looking at. (I know I'd be happy to talk with anyone who asks, and most other students I know would too)
Either way, just have fun and talk to as many people as you possibly can! We're all (well, most of us anyways) very friendly and more than happy to give you the low-down on CU. ------------------------- Jenn, Class of 2011 Major: Information Systems (one of only two girls in IS!
