I just wondered if anyone had any suggestions for keeping in touch with a boyfriend/girlfriend. I've been dating a guy for a couple years, but we're going to different colleges. Are there any communication methods that would be good ones to consider? Thanks!

I have found that Skype is a really good way to keep in touch. You can chat and call via the internet for free. If you have a web cam, Skype also has video chat. I have not double checked to make sure that Skype is supported at Cedarville, but since we have internet access, I'm assuming it should be available. Also, if the two of you have the same phone plan which allows free cell to cell minutes that is also a good way to stay connected. Hope this helps!

Skype works fine on campus. There is one girl in my unit whose boyfriend is in a different state, and they talk on Skype all the time. They'll just have it up in the background while they work on different things, and occasionally will say "look at this" and change back to that screen to see each other. There are occasional difficulties with background noise, but not very often and they're easily remedied.

A little about me to anyone who's interested: My name is Elizabeth, I like music (singing and piano), running, bowling, reading, writing, and a number of other hobbies. I'm majoring in Math Ed with minors in Computer Science and Bible. |

Great question!! I was in your shoes just last year, when I came to college leaving behind a boyfriend of a year and a half ... and we're still together!
Another really important thing is keeping each other involved in your lives. Tell stories, show pictures, share laughters, everything! It's also good to grow your own relationship by doing a Bible Study or working on a project together. Other good ways to keep in touch is the phone (of course) and sending little packages to each other. Whenever I saw something funny at the dollar store, I would buy it and send it to him. It kept him laughing and gave us stuff to talk about. Alexia, thanks so much for your reply! I really like your suggestions, and it's good to hear from someone who has gone through the same experience.

Anytime! And hey if you just need someone to talk to about it, you're welcome to send me an email (alexiamervine at cedarville.edu) or just come over to my room (I'm in Printy 35D this year). Last year, I made sure to make friends with people who were also in a long-distance relationship and it helped a ton to know that I wasn't the only one! It also helps if you ever start struggling to talk through it with someone who might've gone through the same thing.
Good luck, and feel free to contact me if you ever need some advice, a hug, or just a listening ear! ------------------------- Majors: Accounting and Marketing Minors: Bible and Christian Ministries Management Class of 2013 Psalm 42:8 Through each day the Lord pours His unfailing love upon me, and through each night, I sing His songs, praying to God who gives me life. I am also going to be in a long distance relationship. Alexia, It is encouraging to hear that you and your boyfriend are still together! It is a little bit scary going into college with a relationship and not knowing what could happen over the span of four years. I am in Printy 38C this year, so we will practically be neighbors!

That is pretty awesome, Anna! I'll actually be beneath you (I'm on the first floor, you'll be on the second) but feel free to stop down.
