Hello. I'm just wondering about some things that I'm not sure if I'll need. I'm in Maddox. Will I need/want a fan? Are there mirrors in the rooms? Also - I was wondering if there are curtains or shades on the windows, and if not, if we're allowed to bring those.

Hi, probably best place to get the 'official' word is the Student Handbook - I think Chapter 7 is what you're looking for. Try:

From what I've seen, most/all rooms have blinds on them but not curtains - you can bring things like mirrors & curtains with you - the issue I think is more to do with how you attach them to the walls etc. Again the handbook is a good guide for this. As a girl I generally say having two mirrors is better than one - so if you have one, bring it but there should be one you can use in the shower-room or in the dorm already if you don't. And about the fan - YES! I live off campus and in an air-conditioned house and still use fans - you'll appreciate having it in the heat rather than not having it. But yeah - again, the handbook is a good place to go & if you know who your roommate is get in touch with them to see what they're bringing too.

Class of 2014- Hoping to be a Psych Major

Are landline phones necessary? I know they are mentioned on the list, but it seems to me that most people would just use email or cell phones.

no you don't need a land line. I'll be a junior this year and i have yet to have a land line in my room. CU has great reception for Cell phones for verizon and AT&T plus you normally aren't in your room enough for people to really reach you on the landline. Best bet to get a hold of people if you don't know their cell number is email. You learn to check email like every hour because you are constantly being updated on what's going on around campus.

I was in Maddox for two years. Maddox has AC and it's really nice. You prob won't need a fan. It stays pretty cool. There are mirrors on the back of the doors and in the unit bathrooms so those are needed. And Maddox has shades in the windows so you can close them. But i always bring black out curtains to make it even darker in the room. You'll need to bring a rod to hang the curtains on if you do that though.
