Cedarville University

In your opinion what are the best dorms?

at the risk of being totally ostricized by the world of Cedarville. I would venture to say Faith. Now you are immediately thinking, that girl is NUTS! well my friend, if you are a nursing major than you are close to the ENS. If you are a Psych or Ed major you are close to Williams and if you are a communications major same deal. You will also find a different kind of atmopshere. we are sorta like a family. there is a homey type of feeling. Oh and if you are an Art major, welp, the Fine Arts Building is right down the way.

I figure you will probably not agree, and thats okay, I don't mind. but this was a way to in part, plead the case of Faith Dorm, constructed in 1957.

i hear murphy is sweet too!

The only complaint I have ever heard about Faith is the distance. If you don't mind walking a little further to get to the gym and student center, I've heard that the atmosphere is unbeatable, and the dorm itself is really nice. There's a beautiful lounge and a great little courtyard, and it's a lot quieter than the dorms that are in the middle of campus.

I lived in Printy last year, am in Willetts this year, and will probably stay in Willetts next year. Printy is a great atmosphere for incoming freshmen; everybody gets to know everybody else in the unit really well. The main complaint is that the rooms are really small and the showers have hardly any room.

I love Willetts; I'm in central, and I think the bathrooms are nicer in central, even though the rooms are smaller because it's the older section of the dorm. North and south have bigger rooms. The overall atmosphere in Willetts is friendly, but I'm glad that I already knew some of the people in my hall (from my unit in Printy last year).

I've heard good things about Maddox too; it's right in the middle of campus, has the unit-style rooms with a bit of usable lounge space, and a girls-only courtyard.

McKinney and Johnson I don't really know much about; I know McKinney is supposed to be really nice, and is usually mostly seniors with a few others. Johnson used to be just upperclassmen, but last year more freshmen and sophomores started moving in.

Each of the dorms is closer to different things, has different pros and cons, and a different atmosphere. It's all about your personality and what you want to make of it.

I'm majoring in Math Ed with minors in Computer Science and Bible.

Honestly I will be going into Maddox for my third year now! I have to say, I love it. I'll put an add for Maddox, and anyone else for other girls dorms can post their own pros-cons.

1-You get the courtyard. You get that in Faith also, but girls in Faith need to be careful because *hint,hint* there are middle/high school boys who look out the windows and can see girls sunbathing! Most girls in faith either don't realize that or don't care. I was told this a friend who was a townie.

2- We have a kitchen in our co-ed lounge. So you can invite guys over and make them a meal.

3- We have a tv in the co-ed and in the girls only lounge (the girls only can be reserved).

4- We have a study lounge! In the area above the laundry room. It's really great if you can't study in your room.

5- You are extremely close to the Bible building, you are decently close to chapel.

6- Though your co-unit and your unit will not be connected, you really get to know the girls in your unit well. (That's the only major downside, the two units aren't connected.)

7- You have a lounge in each unit to put fridges/couches/coffee makers/etc. My whole unit put all our fridges in the lounge so we could have more space in our rooms.

=) Anyway, hope this helps with the perspective of one dorm. Hope more girls post things they like about other dorms!

I love Murphy! This will be my third year in Murphy (I was in Printy my freshman year). It's a great dorm because there is a cool mix of upperclassmen and underclassmen, it is in a relatively convenient location (right behind the SSC...great when you're hungry! Also not far from the ENS, which is good for me since I'm an engineering major). The rooms are as big as you're going to get in any of the dorms. The RD's of both Murphy and Rickard (Rickard is the adjoining men's dorm) are fabulous and plan some super fun parties/activities for the whole dorm, ones that are actually worth going to.

It's a great place! None of the dorms are bad, though, you can't go wrong.

I lived in Maddox all three years that I lived on campus. I did really enjoy the unit style. However, I do wish I would have branched out and lived in a hall type of dorm at least one. Downfalls of unit styles/Maddox is you have to walk outside in the winter to get to the laundry room and that can be really chilly. Also, often times the unit style can be a little loud. However, I loved the unit style and found it to be a great way to make friends freshman year.

If you're looking for the closest dorm to the gym I'd say McKinney Johnson or Murphy. I'd look at the campus map and compare distances to the athletic center as well as to other buildings.
