I am attending Cedarville next fall and was wondering what students thought about linking their Cedarville student ID with the Fifth Third Bank. Is it secure? Are you able to make online transactions using it as your debit card?

Hi Elizabeth,
The cards are actually pretty easy to keep safe and most students I know have linked their cards to a 5/3 account. There's lots of info on the Student Life website if you want to check the university's official comment http://www.cedarville.edu/Student-Life/cedarville1card Personally, I think there was a lot of hype and concern about it when it was first suggested, but as the change to these cards happened, it actually turned out pretty great. I haven't heard any 'horror' stories. I have a savings account attached to my card and one BIG advantage of having a 5/3 account is that they're one of the few banks that have foreign currency available (for going to Candad/Mexico or any missions trips you might do). There are ATM's on campus too which makes it an easy way for your folks to send you money without having to mail a check or anything. As far as using it for online purchases, it depends how you(or your parents) set it up - but, essentially, yes. There are also stores in the town that accept the CU1Card as long as you have your PIN. (The gas station, coffee shops, pizzeria etc). I hope that helps!! |
