How many orgs are most people involved with? And approx. how often does an org meet?
Thanks! Kati _________________________ Joshua 1:9 "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go." |

I've never personally been in more than 3 orgs at a time, but I know some people who aren't in any, some in just 1, and some in 5 or more. The frequency of the meetings is up to the org; one of the ones I'm in has optional meetings about once a month, optional org dinners every couple of months, and beginning-of-year and Christmas parties. It also offers regular (also optional) opportunities to serve around campus and the community. Most of them don't have meetings much more often than that, and whether they're required or not is up to the particular org.

A little about me to anyone who's interested: My name is Elizabeth, I like music (singing and piano), running, bowling, reading, writing, and a number of other hobbies. I'm majoring in Math Ed with minors in Computer Science and Bible. |

Thanks for the response! Will each orgs required/optional meetings be shared during Involvement Fair? Also if you join a org are you a member for just that year or are you a member forever?

Hi Kati,
Most Orgs will be at the Involvement Fair and will have students who are in the Orgs there who can answer questions about commitment, costs etc. Most orgs are pay-per-semester - but the rules vary by org and the sponsoring faculty/department. Some orgs are free, some have a pay-per-year option. Some have an "initiation" process, some are by-invitation or by-audition only. Most majors have an org and that's generally the best starting point. Maybe send an email to the Department Chairperson in the major you're doing and ask if there is a department-sponsored org, or an org which most of the students in that major opt to join. One thing to think about with orgs, is that if you want to work, most departments & outside employers won't like it if you miss work because of an org meeting. Orgs are DEFINITELY worth it (particularly if you major has an org, as that will cover topics particularly helpful to your career progression) but people who sign up for multiple orgs often find they cannot keep the commitments and keep up with school, work and a generally get burnt out quickly. I'd say to you what I got told in my freshman year - join one org and do well in that. If you want to "do more" apply to be an Officer in that org and get involved with planning, meetings, fundraising etc etc. If you want to find out more about the specific orgs, check out: http://www.cedarville.edu/Offi...ams/Organizations.aspx |
