I have a D dorm in printy and I know how big it is going to be, but my roommate is really adamant on unbunking the beds and just putting bed risers on them. I'm wondering if the room is even going to be big enough so I'm asking if anyone knows just how bug the furniture is? not to mention an opinion.

Hi
This is a bit of a hard question to answer because it depends on what else you want in your room. De-bunking is usually not a problem space-wise, as long as you don't mind sitting on your bed instead of a small sofa or chair. It's really something that's easier to work out when you actually arrive. You'll probably find it works out fine and although it depends on the person, you might find sleeping is better when you're de-bunked. (sleep being one of the highest valued assets on campus, it's worth giving up a the extra space for!) Sorry I can't help with dimensions, but I'd recommend planning to debunk and you can make things work when you arrive. I personally think having under-bed storage is a wise move for college life. Another snippet of info: people often sell random pieces of furniture on campus (through the campus online classifieds) and you can get some great cheap drawers/plastic tubs/desk shelves etc from there. I generally suggest that people bring little with them and then once you are in your room and starting classes, you can see what you need and more often than not, there is something in a town garage sale or listed on the classifieds. |

I lived in a D in Printy my freshman year and my roommate and I were the only ones in the unit who unbunked at first (though the girls in one of the A rooms unbunked for the second semester). We managed it just fine even with an extra shelf above the fridge and a small set of plastic drawers; everything else was stored under the bed. When we were thinking about rearranging our room around October I drew this scale model to help us figure out where to put everything; this may give you a better idea of dimensions. I think 3 grid squares was one foot and I cut off the door and closet space at the one end.
