Back up Your Files
Computer Services routinely backs up the files you store on network drives H, J, S and T.
Users are responsible for performing routine backups of data on their local drive (e.g., C: drive).
- If you choose to back up your files on the C: drive, you should copy the backup file to some other media (e.g., recordable CD, USB flash drive, etc.) as well for safekeeping.
- Learn how to burn files to a CD.
** We recommend saving critical files in two locations to help prevent data loss. **
Hints
- Performing a backup is the easy part; remembering to do it is harder.
- Develop a plan (e.g., every Friday, every payday, etc.) to help you remember to do periodic backups of your most important documents.
- You may want to create a desktop shortcut for "Windows Backup" or "Winzip."
- For extra protection, rotate different kinds of storage (recordable CD, USB memory stick, etc.) so that the new backup does not over-write the latest backup.
Create a Backups Folder on the C: Drive
- Go to [Start] > "My Computer" > "Local Disk (C:)"
- Go to "File" > "New" > "Folder"
- Name the new folder "Backups"
