Phishing
There is an increasing amount of phishing going on. This is where you receive an email that prompts you to go to a web site to enter personal information, such as credit card, drivers license or bank account information, which is then stolen and used against you. Never give out this kind of information on the web. If the request comes from an organization with which you do business, always contact them first to verify the inquiry. See http://www.antiphishing.org for more information and details on the latest scams.
Student use of FacStaff accounts
Some faculty or staff may have gotten used to allowing students to use their account while they are working for them. Since we only have one password now, this will enable them to also access the staff members email, as well as any other network resources (J: drive, Cedarinfo, etc.) to which they might have access. Even if the staff member logs in for the student and then lets them use their account, it is not a good idea to continue this. We have procedures in place that allow students to use their own accounts for whatever is required on their job. To request access rights for students, please submit a Computer Service Request (http://www.cedarville.edu/csr).
