Forward E-Mail

There are two ways to automatically forward your GroupWise e-mail to another account. You can forward all of your e-mails using a GroupWise rule, or you can forward only your Internet e-mail (e-mail which comes to you from an off-campus e-mail address) via options in CedarInfo.

For specific instructions on e-mail forwarding outside of GroupWise, follow these links:

GroupWise Rule

You can create a forwarding rule by utilizing the "Rules" feature in GroupWise. You must be on campus to set up a rule as the Web Access version of GroupWise does not support this feature.

Note:

This forwarding rule will leave the original message in your GroupWise mailbox at school. It will only forward a copy to your forwarding address.

Create a Forwarding Rule

  1. Open GroupWise from a University-owned computer.
  2. Go to "Tools" > Choose "Rules" > Click [New...].
  3. Type a name for your rule in the "Rule name" box (e.g., "E-mail Forwarding").
  4. Under "When event is," make sure [New Item] is selected in the drop-down list and the "Received" box is checked.
  5. Under "Item types," select the message types you need. Clicking "Mail," for example, will only forward regular e-mail messages for you and not tasks or appointment requests.
  6. Click [Define Conditions...].
  7. Choose "From" in the first drop-down list.
  8. Make sure that "[ ] Contains" is selected in the second drop-down list.
  9. Enter a single asterisk ( * ) in the next box.
  10. Click [OK].
  11. Click [Add Action] > Choose "Forward..."
  12. In the "To:" field, type in the e-mail address to which you would like to forward your e-mails.
  13. Click [OK] > Click [Save].
  14. In the "Rules" dialog box, the checkbox next to your forwarding rule should be checked to ensure the rule is enabled.
  15. Click [Close] to close the "Rules" dialog box.

The rule can be modified at any time.

If you have other rules already defined, remember that the rules are executed in sequential order. You will probably want to place the forwarding rule at the beginning of the list to make sure it gets processed first.

To do so, go back to the "Rules" dialog box ("Tools" > "Rules") and drag the forwarding rule to the top of the list.  If you enable more than one rule, all of the rules will be carried out regardless of the order you put them in, unless they conflict with each other.

Disable the Rule

  1. Open GroupWise from a University-owned computer.
  2. Click "Tools" > "Rules."
  3. All of your rules will display in the "Rules" dialog box.
  4. Click to uncheck the box next to the rule you wish to disable > Click [Close].
  5. When you are ready to use the rule again, click the check box again.
