Forwarding E-Mail

There are two ways to forward e-mail to another account. You can forward ALL of your e-mails via a GroupWise rule, or you can forward only your internet e-mail (e-mail which comes to you from an off-campus email address) via options in CedarInfo.

Forwarding All E-mail via GroupWise Rule

You can create a forwarding rule by utilizing the "Rules" feature in GroupWise. This forwarding rule will leave the original message in your GroupWise mailbox at school. It will only forward a copy to your forwarding address.

Creating a Forwarding Rule

  1. Select the "Tools" menu, choose "Rules," and click "New."
  2. Type "Going Home" (or whatever you would like to name your rule) in the "Rule Name" box.
  3. Under "When event is," make sure "New Item" is selected in the pop-up list and the "Received" check box is selected.
  4. Under "Item Types," select the message types you need. (Clicking on "mail" will forward regular mail messages for you.)
  5. Click "Define Conditions."
  6. Click "From" in the first pop-up list, make sure "Contains" is selected in the second pop-up list, then type [*] (a single asterisk, without the brackets) in the next box. (The asterisk means match anything in the "From" field.) Select "OK."
  7. Click "Add Action," and choose "Forward."
  8. When the "Forward" dialog box opens, type in the email address to which you would like your mail forwarded. (The other fields can be left blank.)
  9. Click "OK."
  10. Click "Save." The rule is ready to go, or can be modified at any time.
  11. Click "Close" to close the Rules dialog box.

If you have other rules already defined, remember that the rules are executed in sequential order. You will probably want to place the forwarding rule at the beginning of the list to make sure it gets run first. To do so, go back to the Rules dialog box ("Tools" > "Rules") and drag the forwarding rule to the top of the list.

Disabling the Rule

  1. Click "Tools" > "Rules."
  2. All of your rules will display in the Rules dialog box.
  3. Click on the check box next to the rule you wish to disable to "uncheck" it.
  4. When you are ready to use it again just click on the check box again.

Fowarding Internet E-mail via CedarInfo

To forward only your Internet e-mail to another e-mail address, you can use CedarInfo rather than creating a GroupWise rule. By setting up a forwarding address through CedarInfo, your Internet e-mails will be automatically forwarded to the new address and will NOT be sent to your GroupWise inbox.

Set up Internet E-mail Forwarding Instructions

  1. Go to CedarInfo from the homepage (FacStaff or Student).
  2. In the "Individual (General) Transactions" menu, choose "set your email forwarding address."
  3. Enter a start date (the default is the current date).
  4. Enter an end date (or you can cancel the forwarding instruction at a later date).
  5. Click on the "Submit Change" button.
  6. A confirmation message will appear if your request is processed
Note: it may take a couple of hours for the change to take effect.

Cancel Internet E-mail Forwarding Instructions

  1. Go to CedarInfo from the homepage (FacStaff or Student).
  2. In the "Individual (General) Transactions" menu, choose "Cancel my email forwarding address."
  3. Click on the "Submit Change" button.
  4. A confirmation message will appear if your request is processed.
Note: it may take a couple of hours for the change to take effect.
