Google Calendar: Create and Modify Events in Google Calendar

Before you start…

Google calls anything that you would put on your Calendar an "event" (including birthdays, appointments, meetings, etc).

To create an event

  1. Go to Cedarville.edu/Google.
  2. Click the "Calendar" link and log in. If you are already logged in, open your Calendar by clicking the [Calendar] tab at the top of the screen.
  3. Click [Create] (located in the sidebar).
  4. Enter a title or description of the event in the “Untitled event” box.
  5. Enter Click in the “From date” box and select the event’s date from the mini-calendar (today’s date is displayed by default).
  6. Click in the “From time” box to set the beginning time.
  7. Click in the “Until time” box to set the end time (the default will use an hour duration).
  8. Enter the location in the “Where” line.
  9. Set the privacy of the event. “Calendar default” will set the privacy as the calendar’s privacy setting. “Private” will make the event details only visible to you (and other calendar owners, i.e. those you’ve shared with or delegated to). “Public” will make the event details available to anyone who has free/busy access to your calendar.
  10. Click [Save].

Note:

You can also create an event by clicking on the necessary day and the typing a description (including time and place) in the “What” box in the resulting window. Click [Create event] and the event, including the time, will appear on your calendar. You can click the event and then “Edit the event” in the resulting window if you would like to further edit the event information.

To create an "all day" event

  1. Go to Cedarville.edu/Google.

  3. Click [Create].
  4. Enter a title or description of the event in the “Untitled event” box.
  5. Click the “All day” checkbox.
  6. Adjust the other settings as necessary.
  7. Click [Save].

To create a repeating event

  1. Go to Cedarville.edu/Google.
  2. Click the "Calendar" link and log in. If you are already logged in, open your Calendar by clicking the [Calendar] tab at the top of the screen.
  3. Click [Create].
  4. Enter a title or description of the event in the “Untitled event” box.
  5. Click the “Repeat” checkbox.
  6. Choose how often you want the event to repeat from the “Repeats” and “Repeat every” drop-downs.

To set a reminder

To set a reminder for the event, choose the reminder type (either an email or a pop-up) from the “Reminders” drop-down menu and choose how long before the event you would like to receive the reminder. Click “Add a reminder” to create more than one reminder.

By default, Google adds a Pop-up reminder set for 10 minutes before the event. If you do not want a reminder, you will need to click the "x" next to the reminder to delete it.

To modify an event

If you need to move an event to a different day, you can click on the even in your calendar and drag it to the new day. To edit the event, click the event and then “Edit event” in the resulting window and adjust the information as necessary.

To delete an event

To delete an event, click  the event on the calendar and click “delete” in the resulting window.
