Google Mail: Edit and Delete Labels
Before you start…
Labels are Google's versions of folders. They do everything that folders do, but you can apply more than one label to a message. After creating a label you can edit the label name and color. You can also delete any label you create.

To edit labels
To edit a label through the labels list:
- In Google Mail, click the drop-down arrow to the right of a label in your labels list in the left sidebar. A color palette opens.
- At the bottom of the palette, click "Edit."
- Replace the current label name with the new name.
- Click [Save].
To edit a label through the "Labels" tab in Google Mail Settings:
- In Google Mail, click the gear-shaped [Settings] icon.
- From the resulting list, select "Settings."
- Click the [Labels] tab.
- In the "Labels" column, click the name of the label you would like to change. It will become a textbox.
- Replace the current label name with the new name.
- Press [Enter].
To set a label color:
- In Google Mail, click the drop-down arrow to the right of a label in the labels list in the sidebar. A color palette opens.
- From the color palette, click the color that you would like to apply to your label. For more color options or to change label text color, click "Add custom color."
To delete labels
- In Google Mail, click the gear-shaped drop-down.
- Choose "Settings" from the resulting list.
- Click the [Labels] tab.
- In the "Actions" column, click "remove" (confirm that you want to delete the label by clicking [Delete].
