Local Administrator Login

Before you start…

Most software that you will need is available from the "_CedarNet" menus (on University-owned computers only). Occasionally, you may want to install software in your office or dorm that is for your use only, including drivers for your personal printer, scanner, copier, or camera. This is a "local" software installation and may require administrator rights to install. These instructions do not apply to any desktop or laptops that are not owned by Cedarville University.

Install Local Software from a CD or DVD

  1. Load the CD or DVD into the CD drive.
  2. Click the Pearl (Start Button) > Click [Computer] > Locate the "D:" drive.
  3. Right-click the "D:" drive > Select "Explore."
  4. Locate the executable (.exe) file > Right-click > Select "Run as...." If you receive an error message "Invalid drive H:" during the installation process, submit a CSR.
  5. Type the word Administrator as the username.
  6. Locate a white sticker on your computer tower. On the sticker, you will see a six-digit number underneath the barcode.
  7. Type the six-digit number in the password box > Press [Enter].
  8. Follow the installation instructions.

Install Local Programs from the Web

  1. Log in to a University computer as yourself (with your own username and password).
  2. Locate the file on the web that you wish to download > Save the file to C:\docs.
  3. Right-click the installation program (it usually ends with ".exe") > Select "Run As...."
  4. Click the radio button labeled "The following user:"
  5. Type the word Administrator as the username.
  6. Locate a white sticker on your computer tower. On the sticker, you will see a six-digit number underneath the barcode.
  7. Type the six-digit number in the password box > Press [Enter].
  8. Follow the installation instructions.

Uninstall Local Software

  1. Log off the computer if it is already logged in.
  2. At the Novell login box, click "Computer only logon."
  3. Type the word Administrator as the username.
  4. Locate a white sticker on your computer tower. On the sticker, you will see a six-digit number underneath the barcode.
  5. Type the six-digit number in the password box > Press [Enter].
  6. Click the Pearl (Start Button) > "Control Panel."
  7. Click "Add or Remove Programs."
  8. Select "Remove Programs." This will allow you to take the undesired program off your computer.

Note:

These processes will not work on a University tech cart. If you would like to install software on a tech cart, please submit a computer service request.
