PowerPoint: Insert and Edit Video

Before you start...

In PowerPoint 2010, you can insert a video file directly into your presentation. Once in the presentation, you can edit the video in a number of ways with the [Video Tools] tab. If you're working with a YouTube video, see the help page on how to embed a YouTube video in PowerPoint.

Insert a Video Bookmark

  1. Click to select video.
  2. The [Video Tools] tab will appear > Click [Playback] tab.
  3. Locate the "Bookmarks" group.
  4. Play the video > Click [Add Bookmark] at the point where you wish to bookmark.
  5. Click on the bookmark (yellow dot) in either preview or fullscreen mode to go directly to the bookmark > Click the [Play] button.

Trim the Start and End of Video

  1. Click to select video.
  2. The [Video Tools] tab will appear > Click [Playback] tab.
  3. Locate the "Editing" group > Select "Trim video."
  4. Move the green slidebar to a new start location.
  5. Move the red slidebar to a new end position > Click [OK].
  6. Replay trimmed video clip.

These functions are not available in PowerPoint 2007 or earlier. If you would like to install PowerPoint 2010, see the help page on how to Upgrade to Office 2010.
