PowerPoint: Insert and Edit Video

Before you start...

In PowerPoint 2010, you can insert a video file directly into your presentation. Once in the presentation, you can edit the video in a number of ways with the [Video Tools] tab. This function is no longer available in PowerPoint 2013, and it is not available in versions prior to PowerPoint 2010.

Insert a Video Bookmark

  1. Click to select video.
  2. The [Video Tools] tab will appear > Click [Playback] tab.
  3. Locate the "Bookmarks" group.
  4. Play the video > Click [Add Bookmark] at the point where you wish to bookmark.
  5. Click on the bookmark (yellow dot) in either preview or fullscreen mode to go directly to the bookmark > Click the [Play] button.

Trim the Start and End of Video

  1. Click to select video.
  2. The [Video Tools] tab will appear > Click [Playback] tab.
  3. Locate the "Editing" group > Select "Trim video."
  4. Move the green slidebar to a new start location.
  5. Move the red slidebar to a new end position > Click [OK].
  6. Replay trimmed video clip.
