Printing to / Scanning from the Canon Copiers

Having the capability to print to or scan from a Canon copier requires initial setup on your computer system. If you run into difficulty the first time you attempt either of these processes, please submit an online Computer Service Request (CSR).

Installing the Canon Copier/Printer

From a University-owned computer, click the [Start] button > Go to "All Programs" > "_Cedarnet" > "Server Specific" > "Install Canon Copier_Printer."

Please note that printing and scanning require two different setups; therefore, it may be possible to do one but not the other. Just because you can scan to your computer does not mean that printing will work as well!

Printing to the Canon Copier

You will need to know your department code (the same code you would use to make copies) to perform this function.

  1. Make sure the copier is turned on.
  2. From within the program you are using, select "Print." (From within most programs, go to "File" > "Print.")
  3. Select the Canon copier as your printer. (The name will start with "Canon" and contain a series of other numbers and letters, such as "Canon iR2200-3300 PCL6." If the copier is not listed as an option, submit a CSR as indicated above.)
  4. Select any other options of your choice (page range, number of copies, etc.).
  5. Click "OK." The "Confirm ID/Password" box will appear.
  6. Enter your department code in the "ID" field.
  7. Leave the "Password" field empty.
  8. Click "OK."

If your print request returns an error (such as the message, "Check the Job Accounting check box off and print the document again.") or if your department code is not accepted (and you know you have the correct code), please submit a Computer Service Request.

Installing ScanGear

From a University-owned computer, click the [Start] button > Go to "All Programs" > "_Cedarnet" > "Server Specific" > "Install Network ScanGear."

Scanning from the Canon Copier

The Canon copiers will not scan in color. If you wish to scan in color, please use one of the scanners in the computer labs.

Checking / establishing your connection to the scanner

  1. Go to "Start" > "All Programs" > "Network ScanGear" > "1.6" > "ScanGear Tool."
  2. Check the location of the "Selected Scanner" to be sure your system is connected to the correct copier/scanner.
  3. If no scanner is selected (or if it is the wrong one), click [Discover].  Discovering scanners may take a few minutes.
  4. Use the scrollbar to check the physical location of each Canon copier/scanner which appears in the list.
  5. Choose the appropriate scanner > click [Select].
  6. Click [Exit].

Using the scanner

These instructions are divided into three parts: steps to perform at the copier, steps to perform at your computer system, and steps to perform back at the copier.

You will need to know your department code (the same code you would use to make copies) to perform this function.

At the copier:

    1. Turn on the copier.
    2. Enter your department code and push the "ID" button (leave the "Password" field blank).
    3. Push the "Scan" button.
    4. On the LCD display, select "Online."
    5. Either place your document facedown on the glass, or lay multiple pages faceup in the automatic document feeder.

At your computer:

  1. Open Adobe Acrobat by going to "Start" > "All Programs" > "Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Professional."
  2. Go to "File" > "Create PDF" (or use the button on the menu) > "From Scanner..."
  3. Select the "Network ScanGear Ver. 1.6" as your scanner.
  4. Click "Scan." The "Network ScanGear" window will appear.
  5. Select the "Original placement" of your original document(s):
    • Platen: laid on the glass (will scan side facing the glass)
    • Feeder (1-sided): placed in the document feeder, and you only wish to scan the first side of each sheet of paper
    • Feeder (2-sided): placed in the document feeder, and you wish to scan both sides of each sheet of paper
  6. Select other options as desired.
  7. Click "Scan" (in the upper left corner).
  8. When the scan has finished, the "Acrobat Scan" box will appear, indicating what page number will scan next if you have more to scan. To continue scanning, place your next page on the glass or add additional pages to the document feeder and click "Next." Otherwise, click "Done" if you are finished.
  9. Acrobat will display your document. Be sure to save it!

At the copier:

  1. On the LCD display, select "Offline."
  2. Push the "Copy" button.
  3. Push the "ID" button to clear your department code.
  4. Turn off the copier.
