Resetting Your SPC when Leaving Cedarville
Note: Your SPC registration will expire if your computer has not accessed the Cedarville Network for more than 30 days (i.e., because of summer break, etc.) If your registration has expired and you try to access the network, you will be redirected to the SPC registration page for instructions on how to re-register your system.
Your SPC has been configured for use on Cedarville's network. These settings should be "unset" when you leave campus to ensure optimal performance of your system. (Otherwise, you may have difficulty accessing the Internet, and your computer may be left without important updates and security protection.)
Once you have left campus, follow the step-by-step instructions below (both Windows and Mac instructions included) to remove the Cedarville configuration from your SPC.
Windows
Unsetting McAfee v8.0i Repository
Note: This does not stop McAfee from receiving updates or protecting your computer, it just tells it to download from a different source.
- Click "Start" > "Programs" > "Network Associates" > "VirusScan Console."
- In the window that comes up, go to the menu "Tools" > "Edit AutoUpdate Repositopy List."
- Select "Cedarville AntiVirus Update" and click on "Delete."
- Click "OK."
- Close the McAfee VirusScan Console.
Spybot Updates
Follow these instructions so that Spybot will be able to get updates from off campus.
- Click "Start" > "All Programs" > "Spybot - Search & Destroy" > "Spybot - Search & Destroy."
- Go to the menu bar and select "Mode" > "Advanced Mode."
- Click "Yes."
- On the left menu bar, click "Settings" > "Settings."
- In the box on the right, scroll to "Web update" and uncheck the box for "Use proxy to connect to update server."
- Go to the menu bar and select "Mode" > "Default Mode."
- Close Spybot.
