Synchronize a Mobile Device with Your GroupWise Account

The term “mobile device” in these instructions refers to any Windows Mobile capable device including smartphones and iPAQs. These devices are supportable by GWMobile and able to synchronize an individual’s calendar and e-mail from GroupWise. If you have any further questions regarding supported devices, see Standardized Support for Hardware.

Important Note

Prior to installing GWMobile it is critical that the phone has an unlimited data plan attached to the cellular service. Without the data plan the synchronization process will incur steep charges from the service provider.

The following process will create a connection between your mobile device and the GroupWise Mobile Server (GWMobile). This will allow you to synchronize your e-mail and PIM (Personal Information Manager) data between the device and your GroupWise account.

1st-time users only: Establish Your Account on the GWMobile Server

  1. On a computer, open an Internet browser and type http://gwmobile.cedarville.edu into the address bar. The GWMobile login, powered by Intellisync Mobile Suite, will appear.
  2. Enter your CedarNet username and password > Click [Login].
  3. Fill in the form, paying careful attention to the required fields (marked by *) > Click [Next] in the upper left-hand corner.
  4. Choose the type of device you wish to connect > Click [Don’t Install Now].
  5. The “Setup Complete” window will appear > Click [Done].
  6. The main screen for Intellisync Mobile Suite will appear. Logout or close the browser window.

Install the GWMobile Sync Client (Intellisync) on the Mobile Device

  1. On your mobile device, go to [Start] > Choose “Programs” > Select “Internet Explorer” and enter the following into the address bar: http://gwmobile.cedarville.edu/install.
  2. Enter your CedarNet log-in name and password.
  3. Select the blue “Install Software:…” link.
  4. Accept any prompts to complete the download and installation. You may be prompted to restart your device. When the installation is complete, proceed to the next step.

Perform an Initial Synchronization

  1. After the installation completes, your device will prompt you to enter your campus user name and password one more time.
  2. Choose the more appropriate option for the initial synchronization:
  • Merge: This option combines data from your campus GroupWise account with data on your device. Recommended to avoid any data loss currently on the phone.
  • Refresh: This option replaces the data on your device with the data in your campus GroupWise account.

The synchronization process is now complete, and your mobile device is properly configured for use with GWMobile Server. If you have any complications or questions, submit a computer service request.
