Word: Insert File/Path Name into Document Footer

Inserting the path and file name into the footer or header will help you know where your document is located. 

  1. Open Microsoft Word.
  2. Click the "Insert" tab.
  3. In the "Header & Footer" group, click "Header" or "Footer."
  4. Select a Header or Footer from the list.
  5. Return to the "Insert" tab.
  6. In the "Text" group, click [Quick Parts].
  7. Click "Field."
  8. Under "Field Names," select "FileName."
  9. In the "Field properties" area, select a format.
  10. In the "Field options" area, check "Add path to filename."

The path and filename will now appear in the header or footer.
