Cedarville University will host two events for high school students looking to pursue careers in business, science or mathematics.

Business Day kicks off at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7, with registration and an introductory session about Cedarville University and the business department. Attendees will then enjoy a coffee break and meeting other guests. Students in Free Enterprise will present about the various career opportunities available in business. During the afternoon, current business students and faculty will host a Q&A forum.

Cedarville offers six distinctive business majors—accounting, finance, global economics and international business, management, management information systems and marketing. In every major, students are challenged not only to know what they believe, but also to live out biblical ethics in the business world.

With students interning at JPMorgan Chase, creating their own businesses, managing a investment fund, and spending summers abroad with the International Business Institute, Cedarville University’s business program currently enrolls more students than any other academic department, and its main student organization. More than 40 top companies, many of which are Fortune 500, come to campus each year to recruit students.

One of the hallmarks of Cedarville’s program is the KeyBank Trading Room. “The KeyBank room is one of the best trading simulation rooms of all Christian schools in the country—I love having classes there, with the real-time stock tickers, TVs, and dual-monitor computer stations,” says Amanda Graves, a senior finance major. “Also, I am so thankful that Cedarville provides free access and certification for Bloomberg, a sophisticated financial data program used daily by finance professionals all over the world.”

Science and Math Day, starting at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7, includes exciting, interactive laboratory activities that will highlight all of the department’s majors—biology, premed biology, chemistry, geology, mathematics and physics. Attendees can study the physics of toys, build hexflexagons, figure out math puzzles, or perform guided experiments with digital light microscopes.

While touring the Engineering, Nursing and Science Center’s 20 laboratories, guests may view current students’ botanical and molecular biological research projects and state of the art analytical instruments such as the Shimadzu gas chromatograph/mass spectrometer and the Nikon Eclipse polarizing microscope.

With its Center for Bioethics and dedicated Christian professors, Cedarville offers not only an education, but also a biblical perspective on the intricacies of the universe. “We want our students to develop an understanding of creation and its Creator. We provide a rigorous educational experience that equips students for success,” says Dr. Dennis Flentge, chair of the department of science and math. “Students also learn how to be good stewards of their knowledge and skills in their professions, the environment and in their personal lives.”

Guests will interact with students and faculty during an afternoon mixer and are invited to a bonfire Saturday evening hosted by Chi Theta Pi, a student organization for pre-professional students.

Parents of participants are also encouraged to attend. All guests receive free meal passes for lunch in the dining hall, and campus tours will be available at various points in the day. Attendees for either event may stay in the University’s residence halls Friday or Saturday night.
