The people of the Cayman Islands represent many ethnic groups including the British, descendents of the African slaves, and half of the population have diverse ancestry. Through the years, the Cayman Islands have modernized from simple living to more of a hot spot in the tourist industry. For example, the turtles and stingrays have always been a part of the Cayman Islands, but now they have become a main attraction for the country. The history of the Cayman Islands includes pirates, and today that heritage is remembered in the form a week-long celebration.
