Religion

Religion was at one time a very integral part of Caymanian's life. Sunday would be a literal Sabbath (a day of rest). The women would not even cook on this day. As a result, the women would cook meals on Saturdays that would be served to eat on Sunday. Also on Sundays there would be no cleaning, and it was common to see the Caymanians resting outside in their hammocks or visiting other family members at their homes.

On Good Friday, the children were not allowed to play at all. In fact, the parents would have their children sit in a chair from noon until sundown, and the children were to reflect upon what Jesus did on the cross. There was also no talking among anyone on that day.

In present-day Cayman Island, religion is similar to that of the United States. Christianity is common and denominations include Uniting Church, Anglican, Roman Catholic, and Baptist.
