Economy
Alaska's economy is fueled primarily by two elements, tourism and natural resources. It could be said that tourism is a direct result of it's incredible natural resources. Besides the obvious drawing power of the state's majestic rugged scenery, the unique bounty of Alaska's fish and wildlife occur often in the dreams of the true outdoorsmen. Each summer brings a chance for many of those dreams to become a reality.
Alaska's natural land resources such as oil and natural gas has to be a sore regret for the country of Russia. Since the United States purchased the state of Alaska from Russia in 1867, Alaska has discovered large amounts of gold, oil, natural gas and jade to name a few. These resources have allowed Alaska to become a very prosperous state, one that pays it's residents to live there instead of collecting income tax.
