St.Lucia Day

When others heard about St. Lucia's story, they made a festival that would be celebrated all over Sweden. In honor of St. Lucia, the oldest daughter in each family puts on a long-sleeved white robe with a red ribbon around her waist. She puts a wreath with seven candles on her head. Then she serves her family coffee while they are still in their beds. She also serves them buns and ginger snaps. Then she sings the "Santa Lucia" song to an old Italian melody.

Christmas Day in Sweden is a quiet day when an early church service is held. This church service is called Julotta. These services are usually held by candlelight. The candles are used to "Light the Christ Child on his way." The second day after Christmas is not quiet at all. The time from December 26th to January 13th is full of parties and festivities.
