What are
"Amphibians"?
"Amphibians" (Am-fib-ee-uns) are a certain type of animal. Look at
the checklist below and see if you can think of some animals that might
be amphibians.
~ They have a backbone (they are "vertebrates")
~ They have moist (or wet) skin
~ Their bodies have no scales, hair, feathers, or claws.
~ They are "cold-blooded," meaning that their
body
temperature is the same as their surroundings (air,
water, or soil)

~ Frogs
~ Toads
~ Salamanders
~ Newts

Facts:
~ Some frogs can survive in freezing temperatures
~ They use their thin, moist skin to breathe oxygen
~ Baby frogs are called "tadpoles" and they hatch from eggs
~ Tadpoles have tails, and as it grows to
an adult frog, the tail
shrinks
~ Frogs like to live in ponds
~ Frogs "hibernate" (similar to sleeping
for a very long time)
through the winter so they will stay alive
