In the professional writing program, you will write, edit, and design professional documents just as you would in the workplace. Often, you will create documents for an actual client, both inside and outside the university. Our student portfolios showcase some of the work you will complete as a professional writing major.

Internships — Internships give students real-world work experience within their chosen field. Our students have completed internships with Compassion International, IBM, Honda, and Wiley Publishing, and many other companies that employ writers.

Society of Professional Writers — This organization gives students in Cedarville’s professional writing and information design major the opportunity to connect with their professional peers.

Campus Writing Opportunities — Students frequently work on campus in departments that need content creators, including The Writing Center, Public Relations, Center for Teaching and Learning , Cedars student newspaper, Marketing and Communications, Information Technology, and Career Services. Students are able to gain valuable workplace experience and typically leave these positions with excellent portfolio pieces.

Program Curriculum

Building on your core liberal arts and Bible minor courses, you will take writing, editing, and design courses to prepare you for a career as a professional writer and information designer.

This major offers an accelerated bachelor's-to-master's pathway for students interested in pursuing their MBA.
