Graduate Reading Endorsement Certificate
About the Graduate Reading Endorsement Certificate
Cedarville University’s online Graduate Reading Endorsement Certificate adds an endorsement to an existing Ohio teaching license and qualifies teachers to provide focused reading instruction for students in grades K–12. It meets qualifications for many licenses to be recognized as a Highly Qualified Teacher (HQT) and meets the reading requirements under the Third Grade Reading Guarantee. Coursework from the endorsement may also be used to meet requirements for teacher license renewal.
Convenient — This 16-hour program can be completed in just one year, including online courses and field experiences. Your field experiences can be tailored to fit your needs.
Meets Ohio education requirements — State of Ohio legislation requires all K–3 teachers who serve students who are at-risk or not making adequate progress to have additional reading training. The Reading Endorsement meets the requirements for the Third Grade Reading Guarantee.
Value-add — In addition to adding a valuable endorsement to your Ohio teaching license, these courses can also help with the renewal of a license.

Field experiences — Three field experiences require 30–40 hours of working with students in various age ranges, but can be tailored to fit your schedule and location. These experiences may be done within schools or in another setting, such as church literacy programs or homeless shelters. For your convenience, they may be done during the school year, after school, or during the summer or school breaks. You will need to be supervised by either a licensed educator or an administrator of the program in which the field experience is taking place.
