This overview course will cover the geography, hisory, politics, and international relations of Eastern Europe from prehistory to the present. While special attention will be given to religious and ethnic conflict, the course will also cover Eastern Europe's social histories, economic issues, gender issues, and class issues. The history of the states and peoples of the region will frequently reference their relationships with the US. The course will cover to the rise and fall of the Austro-Hungarian, Prussian, Nazi, Russian, Soviet, and Ottoman Turkish Empires and their influence on Eastern Europe.
