This overview course will cover the geography, hsitory, politics, and international relations of Central & South Asia from prehistory to the present. While special attention will be given to religious and ethnic conflict, the course will also cover Central & South Asia's social histories, economics issues, gender issues, and class issues. The history of the states and peoples of the region will frequently reference their relationships with the US. The course will cover to the rise and fall of the Taliban and of Russia, Soviet, Persian Chinese, Arab, and Mongol Empires and their influence on the region.
