Careers in Prelaw
Prelaw graduates pursue further education at law schools, enabling them to pursue jobs with private law firms, businesses, and the government. Legal training is also applicable in a variety of non-profit and Christian organizations which utilize the courts to pursue a variety of humanitarian causes as well as biblical justice where it is lacking.
The success of our prelaw program can be seen in the accomplishments of our students:
- Our students continue to place in the top 10 percent in the Nation on the LSAT.
- 100 percent of our senior applicants were accepted to law school for the last 10 years (compared to a 80 percent national average).
- In recent years, Cedarville students have been accepted to top law schools including Harvard, University of Michigan, Pennsylvania, and The Ohio State University. Some of our students choose to return to attend law school in their home state and are able to obtain significant scholarships.
Our graduates have went on to get their law degrees from:
- Capital University
- Chapman University
- Harvard University
- Indiana University
- Michigan State University
- Ohio State University
- University of Minnesota
- University of South Carolina
- Washington and Lee University
Internships in the field of law usually involve positions in law firms, judge’s chambers, and prosecutor’s offices. If one is seeking to use their legal degree in one of any number of applications, internships can range much further. In any case, internships help students decide what career options to pursue, help to build résumés, and provide experience that sets them apart from those they will be competing against in the job market.
In the Department of History and Government, we recommend internships in all of our majors and require them in some. We offer the DC Semester for students in any major, and we have recently finalized a relationship with the Advanced Technical Intelligence Center for students to gain an internship experience while going through their “Analyst Boot Camp” for a semester. The ATIC facility is short drive from campus and provides a great opportunity for students interested in intelligence, homeland security, law enforcement, international studies, and a variety of other fields. Even if you do not pursue one of these two programs, we will work with you to find an internship in your field either near campus or near your home for your summer break.
