Getting Started
During your first two years at Cedarville, you will take Bible, general education, and introductory nursing classes. Your courses will provide you with the background necessary to participate in the health care delivery system. Generally, students most likely to excel during the first two years of nursing come from strong high school science and math backgrounds and have ACT scores in the twenties in math and natural science.
After the spring semester of your sophomore year, you may apply for admission to the school of nursing clinical courses. Students who meet the criteria as specified in the Undergraduate Academic Catalog are admitted on a competitive basis.
Preparing for Leadership
Cedarville's nursing major leads to a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.S.N.) degree. Both the National League of Nursing and the American Nurses Association endorse the B.S.N. as the minimum requirement of professional nursing practice. The B.S.N. degree provides you with the education necessary to assume leadership roles in nursing; it also facilitates career advancement and flexibility, as well as exciting opportunities throughout the United States and across the world.
Taking the Licensure Exam
Cedarville graduates are eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN) to be a licensed registered nurse in any state. Graduates of our program do well on their examination and are in high demand by some of the finest hospitals in the United States. Many seek further education in graduate and professional schools. Nursing graduates obtain positions in settings such as medical centers, clinics, nursing homes, schools, work sites, mental health facilities, and the mission field.
Other Opportunities
A Cedarville University B.S.N. provides an open door for cross-cultural experiences. Our cross-cultural nursing minor allows you the unique opportunity to prepare for work in a foreign culture within the health care environment. This minor includes an overseas internship and classes such as cultural anthropology, personal evangelism, and cross-cultural interactions.
Our Facilities
As a student at Cedarville, you will quickly discover that our excellent facilities create a phenomenal learning environment.
We broke ground on our new Health Sciences Center in spring 2011. The 85,000 square foot building opened Fall Semester 2012. This facility provides multi-media classrooms, faculty offices, a conference room, and student lounges, and four new laboratories: a practice laboratory and two more patient simulation and skills laboratories, and a simulated clinical laboratory for FNP students to focus on primary care delivery.
