Essential Resources for Success
CedarNet User Name and Password
CedarNet, the Cedarville Network, is a general term used to encompass the wired and wireless campus network.
- You only need one username and password to access all of Cedarville's online resources, and these are referred to as your CedarNet username and password.
- Your user name and password are the ones you created when you applied for admission.
- If you cannot remember your user name or password, contact Information Technology and ask them to help you reset your user name and/or password.
CedarInfo is the protected portion of the University website that houses your personal information (e.g., course schedule and 14-digit library ID number, transcript, student account, student statement, etc.). You should become familiar with the resources located at this webpage.
To access CedarInfo you may
- Visit the Quick Links section on the student homepage (cedarville.edu/student)
- Type cedarville.edu/cedarinfo in your browser
Log in with your CedarNet user name and password.
Visit the College Now online guide to access resources available through the Centennial Library along with library tutorials.
Note: Your library 14-digit ID can be found at CedarInfo by viewing “Your class schedule, advisor, library id” under the heading Academic (Student) Transactions.
The Academic Enrichment Center (The Cove) ensures that students with documented disabilities are provided equal access to educational programs, services, and activities. Student ID Cards
- New students may have student ID cards made at Campus Safety located on the top floor of the Stevens Student Center next to the main Information Desk.
- If you attend Orientation Day prior to the start of fall semester, you will get your Cedarville University ID card at that event.
- The 14-digit number on your student ID card is your library ID number. This is the number to use when accessing library resources online. If you do not have a physical ID card or you do not have it with you when accessing library resources online, you can find your 14-digit library ID number by viewing your class schedule at CedarInfo.
Tips for Online Success
Username or password problems:
- Contact Information Technology at 937-766-7905. Identify yourself as an online student.
- Visit Moodle Student Resources.
- Your professor is also a great resource for Moodle help.
- If your professor is not readily available, contact program adviser.
- When contacting your professor or your adviser, be sure to identify yourself by your first and last name and state the course you are having difficulty with.
To get valuable assistance with any writing assignment, students may schedule in-person or online appointments with the Writing Center.
Why you need the Writing Center
The Cedarville University Writing Center exists to help writers at all levels of proficiency from all academic disciplines develop effective writing skills. This development takes place primarily through one-to-one peer consultations which are adapted to individual writers' needs. These consultations focus primarily on the writing at hand, but the long-term goal for every session is to help each tutee become a better writer overall. The center is neither a proofreading service nor a classroom--tutors do not edit or grade. You will benefit from meeting with a writing tutor online by:
- brainstorming ideas for assignments
- getting a fresh pair of eyes to see your draft
- receiving feedback on what your strengths and weaknesses are
Who should use the Writing Center
Everyone who has a writing assignment! No matter what class you're in, if you have to write an outline for speech or an essay for composition, a paper for your Bible class or a book report for a history class, you will benefit from meeting with a writing center tutor.
Scheduling an appointment
Before scheduling an appointment, read the following information in it's entirety.
As a student of Cedarville University, you have the option to grant permission for your parents (and other authorized individuals) to discuss your records with certain University offices. In addition, you can also grant your parents permission to view your electronic records, such as academic and financial information. To grant or remove these permissions, you can use the Manage Privacy Permissions transaction located in CedarInfo.
Grant Electronic Access
Students can grant parents or other authorized individuals access to view financial and academic records through CedarInfo.
- If you are not already there, log in to CedarInfo with your CedarNet username and password > Under "Individual (General) Transactions," click "Manage privacy permissions."
- On the page that appears, click the "Grant electronic access" tab.
Note: If you have a parent that does not show up on the screen or the list is empty, you will need to complete an applicant profile so that CU can enter demographic information for the parents and label their relationship to the student. (This can take 1-2 days for processing.)
- If your parent (or another designated individual) does not yet have a CedarNet account (indicated by the words "not yet created" in the "Username" column), then once you click to grant access (step 4 below), a username and password will be created automatically and emailed to you for you to pass on to your parent.
- For each parent or individual, you can "Grant access" or "Remove access" to your financial, academic, and residence life records by clicking the appropriate link under the "Action" heading.
- Once you click to grant or remove access, you will see a confirmation screen. To arrive back at the electronic access page, simply click the "Grant electronic access" tab.
Grant Discussion Permission
Students can grant parents or other authorized individuals access to communicate with individual CU offices such as Financial Aid, Student Life, Cashiers, etc. This does not include your instructor or your program adviser.
- Open a web browser and navigate to CedarInfo > Log in using your CedarNet username and password
- Under "Individual (General) Transactions," click the "Manage privacy permissions" link.
- On the page that appears, the name of anyone that is connected to your account should be listed in the provided table. If you wish to add an individual, click the designated link underneath the table.
- Choose a code word and enter it in the designated text field > Click [Submit Codeword]. In order for a parent or another individual to discuss student information with the departments the student selects, that parent or person will have to confirm the code word before a conversation can proceed. Students can update the code word at any time.
- To grant or modify consent for parents or other specified individuals, click the appropriate link under the "Action" heading.
After you choose to either grant or modify consent, a second screen will appear where you have the opportunity to customize access.
- You can select any or all of the departments listed by clicking the associated checkbox.
Note: Next to each office name, you will see the information icon (gray circle with an "i"). Hover your mouse over this icon to read about which information the office would grant.
- If you have not set up a code word yet, you can do so on this page. (Note: The code word you set will be used for each person you grant access to. You cannot set a different code word for each person.)
- Any changes you make will be processed once you click [Submit Consent] near the bottom of the screen. If you did not make any changes, click [Return to List] to arrive back at the original "Grant discussion permission" page.
In the table on the "Grant discussion permission" page, there should be a green checkmark for any permissions you have granted. If you would like to modify the consent for any individual, simply click the appropriate link under the "Action" heading.
An additional FERPA waiver is required for you to authorize your professors, your academic adviser, or other faculty to talk with your parents regarding academic concerns related to your performance in individual courses or your progress toward degree. Contact the Office of the Registrar for additional information regarding the FERPA Waiver Form.
