We are delighted that your student is participating in this exciting early college program! You can help your student succeed by understanding these important aspects of College Credit Plus.


  • Email is essential to your student’s success. Students must check their Cedarville University email account frequently (at least daily) and respond in order to avoid missing important emails from their professor, peers, and their program adviser. All official University communication will be sent to the student’s University email account, and parents will not be copied on email communications to the student.
  • The flow of communication should be between your student and the professor. Professors include their contact information in syllabi, and questions regarding content, grading or timing of assignments, or other course-related questions should be between the student and the professor. Professors cannot speak with parents regarding academic progress without a current, signed FERPA waiver on file in the registrar’s office. FERPA waivers are to be completed on an as-needed basis and only when student/professor interactions have not brought resolution in any given situation.
  • Program advisers look forward to interacting with parents any time about program-related questions such as registration and course choice/sequencing when requested by the parent. However, College Now students are considered college students, not high school students, when interacting with all university personnel. As such, the student, not the parent, is the responsible party.Parents and students alike should not assume that advisers will inform parents of information such as registration deadlines and procedures in the event that the student is not responding to contact attempts by the adviser. Course Content

Course content is appropriate for the college classroom and is discussed at a level appropriate to college-age students. All discussion occurs within the framework of a biblical worldview, however, parents must determine whether their student is ready for this experience. Content is not altered because high school students are enrolled.

FERPA and student records

All higher education students are protected by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA), as amended, regardless of age or instructional delivery method.

If you are a parent of a University student, there are steps your student must take in order for you to be able to discuss records with University staff members and in order for you to access electronic records.Once your son or daughter has granted you access, there are steps you can take to discuss and view his or her records:

Electronic Access:

In order for you to have online access to your student’s financial, academic, and residence life records, he or she will have to grant permission. Once permission has been granted, you can access the records by completing the following steps:

  1. Open a web browser and navigate to CedarInfo(
  2. You can log in with your CedarNet username and password. If you do not know your username and password, please call information technology (937-766-7905) for assistance.
  3. Once you have logged in to CedarInfo, choose the “Change person to access” transaction (located under the “Individual (General) Transactions” section heading).
  4. On the page that appears, click the radio button next to the name of the student you wish to access. (If you do not see any names, that means your student has not granted you access yet.)
  5. Click [Submit].
  6. Click the “CedarInfo Main Menu” link located near the bottom of the screen. The screen that appears will display the selected student’s information based on what the student has granted access to.

Discussion Permission:

There are certain offices on campus that require student consent in order for parents to discuss their student’s records. These offices include Cashiers, Financial Aid, Registrar, Student Development, The Cove, and Disability Services.

  1. When you call a CU office to discuss a student, the staff member will first verify online that access has been granted for you to speak with their particular office.
  2. You will then need to provide the code word your student created when he or she granted access. If you do not know the code word, please ask your student to share the word with you

FERPA Waiver:

An additional FERPA waiver is required for a student to authorize his/her professors, academic adviser, or other faculty to talk with parents regarding academic concerns related to the student’s performance in individual courses or progress in the College Now program. Students must contact the Office of the Registrar for additional information regarding the FERPA Waiver Form.

Writing Center Policy for Parents

  • Information about the writing center is available on the Writing Center’s website.
  • Your student will schedule appointments with a trained tutor through the online scheduling system which is accessible on the Writing Center’s website. All students are responsible to schedule and manage their own appointments through that system.
  • Communication in writing center sessions will occur between your student and the writing center tutor. Writing Center sessions provide your student the opportunity to ask questions about writing assignments as well as seek assistance for improving writing overall.
  • As a parent, you may not participate in tutoring sessions either in-person or online.
  • No tutor is permitted to speak with you regarding any tutoring sessions conducted with your student.
  • If you accompany your student to a writing center session, the tutor will request that you sit elsewhere as he or she conducts the appointment.
  • Appointment policies for the writing center are available for review.
