Dr. John Hammett
Dr. Hammett serves as John L Dagg Senior Professor of Systematic Theology and Associate Dean for Theological Studies at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, where he has served since 1995. He was born in Charlottesville, Virginia but grew up near Gaffney, South Carolina and has spent most of his adult life in North Carolina.
He has nine years of pastoral experience, having served churches in North Carolina, Kentucky and Indiana. He has earned degrees from Duke University, Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He is the author of Biblical Foundations for Baptist Churches, 40 Questions About Baptism and the Lord’s Supper, as well as a contributor to numerous books and articles on topics such as the emerging church, multi-site churches, the scope of the atonement, and the doctrine of humanity.
Before coming to Southeastern, he served as a missionary with the International Mission Board at the South Brazil Baptist Theological Seminary in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He and his wife Linda have been married for 38 years and have two children. They live in Wake Forest.
