Sheila Raye Charles
Sheila Raye Charles creates her own distinct sound while delivering her intensely inspiring message of hope and love. As a talented singer/songwriter, she has found her voice in acoustic jazz and R&B, with lyrics that deliver the personal journey of her life and relationship with her legendary father, Ray Charles. At age 19, with great courage she defied her father’s wishes and pursued music. Recognizing her commitment and her talent, her father brought her and her band into his studio and personally produced several songs. Her music career waned after a series of painful life-altering events, which today give great meaning and countenance to her music.
Today, Shelia is called upon to provide skin-tingling renditions of her father’s best-known songs, from America the Beautiful to Hit the Road Jack to Georgia, in jazz festivals to embassy parties to clubs and places of worship. As an entertaining and engaging vocalist, Shelia inspires her audiences with stories of her challenges with drug addiction and recovery and of her spiritual journey and personal growth, while at the same time delivering meaty, life-giving music. Her life story, Behind the Shades, provides insight into her life and her path to God.
Recently, Shelia was appointed national spokesperson for the Raye of Hope for Recovery Crusade, which began in January 2016. The Crusade visited 15 states to collaborate with local and national community partners to provide education on preventing the effects of drug abuse/addictions and empower local leaders to discuss feasible solutions and ways to cooperate for the safety and good of the community.
Most recently, Shelia has performed at jazz festivals in Germany, Lithuania, Switzerland, and Russia. She competed in Rising Star France on M6 TV and just returned from performing at sold-out concerts in Germany.
