Cathy Chester is the sibling of a brother, Rodney, who was affected by multiple disabilities from infancy. This life experience impacted her career choice leading her into Special Education. Cathy retired in June, 2010, after 31 years of service as a Special Education teacher for Whitehall City Schools (Ohio), working with families affected by disabilities, poverty, and English language learners. She has a Masters in School Counseling from the University of Dayton. Cathy has been the Coordinator/Coach for Whitehall Special Olympics for 22 years and was a finalist for a 2011 Jefferson Award for volunteerism for her commitment to Special Olympics. Presently, Cathy and her husband Jon are in the process of preparing to become church planters within the next two years in the Wilmington, North Carolina area with the vision that the church will be accessible to families affected by disabilities.
